A Husband for Janet is a full-length, romantic comedy with eight characters (six females and two males).
Janet and Kenneth have just returned home after bringing their two children to summer camp. Janet is looking forward to a long, hot summer, alone with her husband. However, her mood is abruptly changed when Kenneth asks for a divorce. After several moments of devastation she rebounds and tells him that when he finds another husband for her, she will relent. Kenneth, after much bafflement, agrees.
Additional characters:
- Frances Conway: A coworker of Kenneth, divorced and very attractive. She feels she has not been given a fair deal in life and, therefore, sees no reason to play fair herself.
- Mother Beryl: Janet's mother who is also divorced, lively and talkative and also bitter in a hilarious way.
- Dr. Ralph Larkan: Janet's veterinarian boss. A bachelor.
- Ellen and Melissa: Friends of Janet's.
- Edith: A next-door neighbor.
